POPULAR QUESTIONS ABOUT WINEMAKING FOR YOUR WEDDING

Congratulations on your engagement!

Weddings are a celebration of love between two people committing themselves to each other. Alcoholic beverages have been apart of this celebration for thousands of years. Traditionally a months supply of wine was made from honey (mead) and given to a newly married couple to ensure happiness and fertility. The first moon phase (month) of a marriage was viewed as the sweetest! This continues today with a variety of alcoholic beverages namely wine being used to celebrate and to cheers the bride and groom to their future happiness!

The process involves two visits. Your first visit will be selecting your wines and starting them off. On your second visit you will be packaging and removing the wine to your home. The vinting time frame from your first visit to the second visit varies from 5 weeks to 8 weeks depending on the quality juice you start with. We do recommend some ageing time depending on the quality of the juice but 4 months prior to your wedding date would be ideal.

To customizes your wine even further we offer personalized label on site and large selection of shrink capsules to give your bottle a professional look. Also available is a variety of bottle types, colours, and sizes.

Wedding planning can be a daunting task and so can be selecting wine for your special day with a list of 300 plus wines! We recommend you come in for a free consultation to discuss your needs and to see just how easy the process really is.

Q. How much wine will I need to make for our wedding?
R. LCBO recommends a half bottle per person of legal drinking age. However we have often found this to be slightly on the high side. If you do have a large number of people who drink wine this will be a cautious estimate.

Q. Do I need a liquor license to serve homemade wine?
R. You do require a special license to serve homemade wine that can be obtained from the liquor store for a nominal fee. It does have to be a religious event such as a wedding and must be made by you or a family member. Talk to the hall or caterer first to see if you can serve homemade wine, some will not allow it (added revenue for them) or will charge a corkage fee per bottle opened.

Q. Is it worth making my own wine over buying commercial wine?
R. The cost saving is the number one reason for producing your own professionally crafted wine. Prices starting at about $4.70 per bottle completely personalized with your own unique label! Many other couples enjoy the aspect that they made the wine themselves for their friends and family giving it more of a personal touch as a wedding "favour" or for on the tables at the reception.

Q. I've never made wine before and know nothing about winemaking!
R. That's fine, we take care of all the technical work and you only worry about adding your package of yeast to start fermentation and return several weeks later to bottle your wine using are fully automated bottling system. Our friendly staff will guide you through every step.

Q. I don't drink wine and I have no idea what to make?
R. The trained staff at Brew Time can help you with your choice; we can suggest several popular wines from our 300+ wine list based on the food you will be serving at the wedding.

Q. How will I know if I will like the wine when it's finished?
R. Brew Time has been in business for 18 years and is the only wine facility in Ontario with a certified winemaker. We do offer a 100% guarantee on our wine for one full year (providing certain storage conditions are met). At Brew Time we have gone great lengths to ensure that we only offer the best wine juices on the market and they have proven time and time again that they produce a quality finished product that you can proudly serve on your wedding day!

Q. How much time do I need to have the wine ready for drinking?
R. The wine themselves are ready to be bottled in 5 - 8 weeks depending on the wine you choose. However wine does go through a bottle shock period after bottling for about a week to two weeks. Wine in general will benefit with 2-3 months of aging. We do highly recommend starting your wedding wine 3+ months prior to your wedding. However it can be ready in as little as 5 weeks.
